Dating from the 13th century, the Codex Regius, more popularly known as the Poetic Edda, is a collection of Old Icelandic poems compiled by an anonymous author(s). These poems, thirty-three in total, have oral roots predating Christianity and are the most extensive surviving source of Norse Mythology and Germanic heroic legends. An English Translation of this work, by Jeramy Dodds, will be published in early 2013.
